Back when The Legend of Zelda was more an idea than a full game, popular anime artist Haruhiko Mikimoto did some drawings of Zelda and Link to feature in the anime magazine Newtype. Some scans of a 1984 or 1985 edition of Newtype reveal what he imagined for these two characters before The Legend of Zelda was released. Hit the jump to see the scans!

A few days ago, we reported on a new promotional manga Nintendo released for Ocarina of Time 3D’s Taiwan debut. While all of us enjoyed seeing Akira Himekawa’s work again, there was the problem of a language barrier preventing most fans from being able to read the comic. Gladly, the folks at the fan website Zeldanime have been kind enough to break said barrier for us and have translated the entire manga for our reading! Jump inside to see.

Recently, a page was discovered on the Nintendo Taiwan website that includes a short, twelve-page manga illustrated by Akira Himekawa that is based upon Ocarina of Time. This is in a different, new style from the original manga, and is also in color. The entire comic is in Chinese, but you can take the jump to check it out for yourself; the artwork is still impressive despite the language barrier.

A group by the name of Aeipathy Industries has reached out to the fans via Kickstarter to try to improve a project they’ve started called Zeldamotion. The creator of the project, Sean Heitmeyer originally started this because he wanted to animate the Zelda manga series. The latest project Zeldamotion by the animation group Aeipathy Industries has been recently posted on YouTube. An animated adaptation of Akira Himekawa’s A Link to the Past manga with voices and sounds. The trailer shows the initial parts of the game while maintaining the artstyle and design of the manga. A while back, you may have heard about the Skyward Sword manga released in Hyrule Historia by Akira Himekawa. The excellent translators over at GlitterBerri have now fully translated the complete 33 pages. There’s only one problem: the scanlations are no longer allowed to be published on the internet.
