Majora’s Mask is often misconstrued as a dark horse of the Zelda franchise. However it is labeled — “underrated, misunderstood,” etc. — most of these comments simply point toward the misconception that Majora’s Mask isn’t appreciated enough. It came out at the end of a console’s life, after the “wow” factor faded away. Many of the reviews for the game weren’t as positive as those for Ocarina of Time, sometimes for good reasons and sometimes for arbitrary reasons. Likewise, many…

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on Deviantart artist HyLian-Of-Ooo‘s fanart, “Lost in the Twilight”. In this fanart it shows Link as Wolf Link and Midna as they are traversing through the Twilight that is covering Hyrule. The colors the artist uses in this piece fit the atmosphere that is shown in these areas perfectly. Link and Midna are greatly dwarfed by the trees surrounding them. There is a bright light seen in the distance and they both are looking in…

Voice acting in Zelda. It’s one of the most heated debates in the series today, and it has been for quite some time. Many fans are opposed to seeing voice acting in the series, some even to the point of being vehemently resistant to it, convinced that it wouldn’t work no matter what. I can’t do anything to change someone’s mind if it’s made up, but I urge those of you that have read this far to read the rest…

Hey guys! In this video I’m talking about a concept that I don’t feel like people talk about much… and that’s having a sense of exploration and almost… “treasure hunting” in a Zelda game. I think that a lot of Zelda games have an increased focus on finding chests, OR just finding the next dungeon, and aside from Twilight Princess and perhaps to a lesser degree The Minish Cap and The Wind Waker, modern Zelda games have less of this….

Swordigo is a game made for the iPad, iPhone, and Mac systems. It tells the story of a hero who is chosen to save his village from what is called “evil corruptors.” While playing the game one can notice subtle similarities in certain aspects of the game that resemble things from the Zelda series. First off: the the main character wears a green shirt and the currency used in the game resembles rupees, the currency used in Hyrule. Another reference…

Guns in Zelda

March 17 2012 by Axle D. Wilder

Alright, first video discussion in a while, and the topic this time is kind of a doozy. In this video I talk about firearms (guns) in the Zelda series. This is a topic that’s been debated about for a while now and is very controversial; a lot of people have a huge aversion to the idea. Other people don’t mind it. Seems like a worthwhile topic for a video, am I right? You can watch the video here or view…

The topic of multiplayer in the Zelda series is a bit of a strange one. Despite being able to occasionally find elements from other genres in certain games in the series, Zelda is first and foremost an adventure game, where your focus is going to be on completing a journey, but also just finding things and enjoying the journey itself. It’s not exactly a genre in which one often finds multiplayer functionality, but on occasion Zelda games do have multiplayer…

The Legend of Zelda has a long history of story-driven gaming, to the point where an official timeline release has been highly controversial. While in many cases this emphasis on story is praised by the gaming media, the games have attracted a fair bit of criticism for each having the same basic story – and the criticism is right. The key point here is that this is not necessarily a criticism: The Legend of Zelda ascribes very closely to a…

As I’m sure most of you have noticed, Zelda Dungeon normally publishes an article about Zelda every Friday. This feature is run by myself along with a staff of many dedicated writers and editors. Dedicated writers provide the articles you read, while editors help those writers and also work on articles submitted by other forum users so that they are brought up to standard. Now that we are trying to build the article feature of the other site on the…

An article by Mike Stout has been posted over at Gamasutra and it talks about interesting things he found during his recent playthrough of the game. Those interesting things are those that the developers of the original Legend of Zelda did during their designing of the levels found in the game. Here’s one of those things he found: If Miyamoto’s intent was truly to give the players the feelings associated with exploration, then this design is a masterful execution of…
