Not all enemies are created equal in the Zelda series — nor, for that matter, are their names. This week, we asked Zelda Dungeon staff to rank their top five “dumbest” enemy names: names that make your eyes roll; names you can’t possibly take seriously, names you really don’t “like like.” Which enemy names can you barely tolerate? Leave your rankings in the comments. Aaron SuduikoAaron Suduiko, Phillips Exeter Academy ’13, Harvard University ’17. Studies philosophy with a focus on developing new…

The Savage Labyrinth in The Wind Waker, the Cave of Ordeals in Twilight Princess, the Treacherous Tower in A Link Between Worlds: these are all examples of the optional enemy rush dungeons that exist in the Zelda series. The format is carried over from game to game; Link must battle his way through many rooms of enemies, each with increasing difficulty. As these side-quests continue to appear in the series, it is time decide if they truly are good additions to Zelda games…

Encountering armored foes on your journey is quite the challenge. But nonetheless, it’s always so much fun, and you just can’t seem to get enough of them. Over the course of the Zelda franchise, we’ve encountered the Darknuts, Iron Knuckles and even the Phantoms. We already can speculate that there is likely to be an enemy that shares a common quality these three seem to have- heavy armor and hard-hitting attacks…

It’s clear that a lot of work goes into creating the settings of every Zelda game, but some of the best details in the worlds happen to be the enemies that pervade them. each enemy is remarkable in its own right, and all add a bit of flare to Link’s adventure. In this week’s Zelda Dungeon Top 5, we take a look at the design of enemies throughout the Zelda franchise. Predictably, the 3D games dominate this list, but there…

When it comes to stories set in a medieval or pseudo-medieval setting, soon or later you’ll run into dragons. Either in the flesh or just referenced, there is something primordial, something alluring to large serpentine monsters. Many cultures who have had contact of some kind with scaled creatures from snakes to crocodiles have eventually developed a large and mighty variant of it: from the Chinese Dong Fang Qing Long (The Azure Dragon of the East), the Iranian Zahhak (known as…

Clay Miniblin

Who here hates Miniblins? I sure did in The Wind Waker. Truthfully, those annoying cretins gave me more trouble than Darknuts. I could dodge and weave all I wanted, but a horde of Miniblins could always land a blow. However annoying these creatures are, they still stand as a distinct trademark of the Adult timeline. Commemorating their wickedness, reddit user, bulletproofheart6, sculpted a complete clay model of a Miniblin. Hit the jump to view the carving!

Every Zelda game has instances of easter eggs appearing within them. It can be references to other games in the series or to other series entirely or it can be something else that was added in just for fun. In this case it would be the latter. The aforementioned easter egg was discovered by Twitter user, Andrew Kelly and it involves an enemy called a Geldman which are usually found wandering around in the desert region of Hyrule in both…

In a series like Zelda, with so many foes of every variety — villains, bosses, and regular enemies — it’s no surprise that not all of them are that well fleshed-out. The vast majority of bosses are never elaborated upon, though even as early as A Link to the Past you had a boss with an actual backstory in Blind. The villains, while they often have plenty of story details to their name, can also tend to be very simplistic…

Zelda is full of secrets. A motif that has pervaded the series since the very first game. GameTrailers has released a fact from the series which I personally never noticed before. The enemy Pols Voice is weak to sound. Throughout the series these enemies continue to pop up and I never noticed this weakness before. In Oracle of Ages/Seasons I always used bombs to defeat them, I’m now wondering if the bomb’s explosion was the cause of their defeat or…

We all love the Zelda series. There are so many things to love about it; the characters, the stories, the dungeons, the inventory… the list goes on. But if there is one thing we can all agree on, it’s that the series is notorious for pitting our favorite hero against some of the most irksome, tantrum-inducing, downright ANNOYING enemies of all time. Regardless of difficulty, all of these foes slow your progress. I considered not putting these enemies in any…
