One often criticized aspect of the Zelda series is the heavy reliance on the same type of puzzles we were doing back in 1986. While the puzzles have become more complex over time, often they are still very similar. Think pushing blocks, blowing open rock faces, and setting fire to torches. Eiji Aonuma himself seems tired of this—not just in regards to Hyrule Warriors, but in wanting to set new standards and different types of puzzles for Zelda U. Head inside for more.

I am unsure what is more interesting: that these aren’t just a few costumes with some items, or that Nintendo is the one asking for Bayonetta to show more… skin. In the original design of the Link costume, there was an undershirt—similar to how Link is actually clothed in real life. After Nintendo saw this, they asked the developers if they could remove the undershirt because Nintendo felt it didn’t fit with the style of of the game. Yes, Nintendo is the reason we see more cleavage, among other things, out of Bayonetta rocking the Link costume. More inside.

Obviously, most of you have heard of the requests for Majora’s Mask 3D; for years now, thousands of Zelda fans have wanted a remake of the classic Nintendo 64 title, to the point where it’s even inspired Operation Moonfall on this site, along with many other formal organizations and petitions for the game.

There’s also this amazing fan-made video showcasing what the game would look like on the Wii U, which drove the entire Zelda fanbase nuts a few years ago.

Well, in an interview with Kotaku, Aonuma has recently said that he hears and understands the claims for the game, and that he’s doing his best.

Head on after the jump to see what he said!

As news about Hyrule Warriors continues to come in, new information about the roster of playable characters in the upcoming entry in the Zelda series is up for speculation. We’ve seen four playable characters at this point—Link, Impa, Zelda, and Midna—but according to a speaker during Nintendo Treehouse’s demo today, we’re in for more female characters. The speaker divulged that “at least half” of the roster will be female. Nine character slots have been spotted during demos, so between now and the Hyrule Warriors‘ release in September we’re likely to have some more reveals.

Is this good or bad news for your dream roster? Things are sure looking up for mine; I’ve got a good feeling about my girl Ashei. Let us know in the comment section!

Trickles of Eiji Aonuma interviews are starting to come out of the woodwork, as each site tries to get exclusive “firsts.” As the story goes this time, Eiji Aonuma has a lot to say about Link in Zelda U, and the feeling of that character being us, the players. He also addresses the idea of Zelda being a protagonist at some point. Head inside.

Eiji Aonuma is very busy this week. He is likely doing several dozen, if not hundreds of interviews. He just unveiled Zelda U, plus Hyrule Warriors arrives later this year. That hasn’t stopped him from checking in on fan reaction, specifically to the reveal of Zelda U. Yes folks, he is paying attention, and he is reading your comments. He chatted with Game Informer at E3, where he specifically makes mention of the trends he is seeing from our remarks. Head inside.

While this might seem like a no-brainer for a game slated in 2015 (especially one that will likely highlight the holiday sales), we now have some official confirmation there will be a playable demo next year. It may kill some hope that Nintendo Treehouse plays the game today, though Treehouse has been playing parts of games that the public cannot — such as Midna earlier this week in Hyrule Warriors… so there is always a chance. More importantly for some, an earlier story we posted quoted Eiji Aonuma from Miiverse — it appears the post was mistranslated. Head inside.

Remember when Eiji Aonuma teased that the character seen in the Wii U Zelda trailer wasn’t necessarily Link? My oh my, Stephen Fry, it seems like the Zelda mastermind may have been joking around. We all may have gone a little too crazy with theories this time, folks.

That is Link in the trailer premiered during the Nintendo Digital Event, and it is not a female version of the hero. When asked about rumors of the character’s identity being someone other than Link, Eiji Aonuma was quick to chuckle and dismiss his initial comment as a joke.

“It’s a rumour. Actually that comment I made jokingly. It’s not that I said that it wasn’t Link. It’s that I never said that it was Link. It’s not really the same thing, but I can understand how it could be taken that way. It seems like it has kind of taken off where people are saying ‘oh it’s a female character’ and it just kind of grew. But my intent in saying that was humour. You know, you have to show Link when you create a trailer for a Zelda announcement.” — Eiji Aonuma

Aonuma had a few more things to say on the topic. Head inside to find out.

Kooloo-LimPAH!! Tingle is returning to Smash Bros. as an Assist Trophy!

The creepy mustachioed midget we all know and love (and hate) has been spotted on the E3 show floor. Tingle is in the playable demo of

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. His abilities look similar to the ones used in Brawl, as we can spot Tingle inflating a giant balloon and floating away from the fight.

Personally, I’m a little disappointed we won’t see Tingle as a playable fighter. Oh well. Maybe in Smash 5, am I right, guys? The dream lives on.

Check out the short snippet of footage of Tingle in Smash Bros. inside.

UPDATE: There seems to be some question about the validity of the translation despite it being officially translated by Miiverse. We’ll continue to post updates as they become available.

Breaking news straight from Eiji Aonuma on Miiverse—apparently the demo we saw of Zelda Wii U during Nintendo’s E3 presentation was actual gameplay. What does this mean for the camera? Maybe gameplay is different on the television than it is on the GamePad, making it more movie-like. So what do you think? Hit the jump for Aonuma’s full quotation!
