Super Nintendo World, the theme park land once slated to open in the summer of 2020 at Universal Studios Japan, is now aiming for February 2021 instead. February 4th, the date currently planned as the opening date, has been projected to be the date in which Nintendo fans can see for themselves well-known characters and images constructed in real life.

Although the attractions teased in images seem to only adhere to Nintendo’s Super Mario franchise, it is possible that merchandise may extend to other popular Nintendo properties like The Legend of Zelda or Pokémon. For now, however, the revealed attractions include a Mario Kart ride built into a version of Bowser’s castle and chances at collecting virtual coins throughout the entirety of Super Nintendo World’s Nintendo Switch-interactive locations.

Although the wisdom of opening new attractions in a popular theme park is one to be debated in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, Universal Studios is likely attempting to save the struggling theme park industry. That being said, it is still possible for the opening to be delayed further, especially considering the continued spread of the coronavirus. Even the planned development and construction of a Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Orlando was suspended indefinitely.

If Super Nintendo World does open in February, it surely will not be what developers of the park intended, opening either during or very soon after a worldwide pandemic. However, if the new images are any indication, the attractions truly are something to get excited about for when it is safe to travel to Universal Studios Japan.
