If any Zelda tune should get a mariachi cover, it’s the Latin-flavored Gerudo Valley theme, with it’s soulful guitar, emotive horns, and syncopated beat. DaneYard Shift, a mariachi band that has covered a number of video game songs on Youtube, brings us such a rendition, in a rousing performance of the theme to 6/4 time.

Hearing real horns and strings playing this familiar tune I’d grown accustomed to hearing in midi was an awesome experience. The spirit of the song comes through so much better with real instruments. To be honest, I found the change in tempo somewhat jarring and hard to get used to at first, but after a few listens I became hooked on this creative new take on this Zelda classic.

What do you think? If you dig the song, you can download the it on iTunes or Loudr. You can also support the band on their Patreon. Also, please let us know your take on this cover in the comments!
