Every Zelda game has some amount of glitches or errors in them, but few glitches in Zelda history were more deadly than the original Skyward Sword‘s game-breaking glitch related to the Song of the Hero. The most awkward thing about this glitch was the fact that some players would never ever see it, because it is avoidable depending on how the player completes the different parts of the Song of the Hero quest. However, players who started with the Lanayaru portion risked being blinded-sided by a game-breaking glitch that made the game unable to trigger an important story event in the Eldin region. Because of how bad the glitch was, Nintendo created a Save Data Update Channel to fix the glitch in December 2011.

With the release of Skyward Sword HD, many fans were understandably curious about whether the glitch still exists. Fortunately, the team at the popular YouTube Channel GameXplain have put out a video confirming that the glitch has been fixed in the HD version on Nintendo Switch! In their video, GameXplain goes through the steps that triggered the glitch originally, which involved completing the Lanayaru portion of the Song of the Hero and speaking to Golo the Goron. In the original version of the game, this process would keep the Song of the Hero events from triggering in the other regions.

After going through these steps in Skyward Sword HD, GameXplain was able to access the other parts of the Song of the Hero without issue, which proves the glitch is not in the new version of the game. It is great that the player can rest easy knowing the glitch is gone, and they will not have to worry about it ruining their playthroughs. It would have been irresponsible for Nintendo to leave the glitch in the HD version.

It is interesting to see the technological advances made since the original Skyward Sword‘s release. In 2021, Day One patches and major glitch fixes are regularly done through updates, which was not as common on the Wii in 2011. While updates can be frustrating or annoying at times, they can also prevent a situation like the one seen in the original Skyward Sword.
