I’m going to make a confession to kick things off here: I’ve never had much of an interest, if any, in the music of barbershop quartets. It’s not necessarily that I dislike it outright or have anything against that type of thing; it’s just never really spoken to me on the same level that classic rock or 80’s pop does. I thought that the group that floated by in Bioshock Infinite was charming enough, but it still wasn’t enough to sway me.

However, that might have changed as I’ve discovered what might be the breakthrough I needed to appreciate the genre. The Newfangled Four, a group dedicated to providing barbershop quartet covers of a variety of themes, has decided to put their own spin on some familiar Zelda tunes in a wonderful medley piece. From acapella renditions including the titular theme that opened the original game 35 years ago, to a performance of “Kass’s Theme” complete with lyrics, these guys flaunt their impressive vocal range with amazing results. It’s definitely enough to make a believer out of someone like me for sure. At the very least, it’s just one more wonderful example of the incredible talent that the Zelda fan base continues to proudly share with the world.

If you like what you’ve heard here, be sure to give the rest of their channel a look for some more impressive barbershop quartet covers of famous themes.
