Wii U Link Remember when the teaser trailer for Zelda Wii U was released last year and there was all that buzz about the possibility of Link being a girl? At this point, though, theorists are grasping at straws, picking at each and every word from Zelda developers and Nintendo that may insinuate Link from Zelda Wii U being female. But what if- for future projects- Nintendo actually put some real consideration into the concept?

An analysis given by Jamin Warren, the host for the YouTube channel PBS Game/Show, informs us that there really is no reason that Link can’t be a girl in future games. That leaves us all wondering, what’s keeping Nintendo from jumping on board?

Make the jump and check out the video for some insight.

As explained in the video, there really isn’t anything standing in the way of having a female Link character, except Nintendo themselves. For twenty-nine years, or the span of three different timelines (if we’re referring to The Legend of Zelda universe) Link has consistently remained a male character, even if he is only supposed to be a stand-in for the players themselves. Perhaps it’s time for a change. If the majority of fan base for the Zelda franchise is promoting that change, then what is there to lose?

Personally, I prefer Link as a male character, but I’m not against giving a female protagonist a chance in the spotlight. Considering that Hyrule Warriors did pretty well, and that the majority of the playable characters are female, I’m sure I’m not the only one who wouldn’t mind a gender swap. What do you guys think? Would you play a Zelda game with a female Link? Do you think that the Zelda franchise would lose its core audience if Nintendo decided to give it a shot? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
