Earlier this year, Nintendo announced through their Nintendo Versus Twitter account that a new wave of  Super Smash Bros. series amiibo would be accompanying the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this holiday. In that same announcement they revealed that “select” previously released Smash amiibo would also be getting re-released later this year. It seems that time has finally come as we’ve begun to see them pop up on store shelves!

After doing a little digging we found that Target has restocked Mario and Pikachu, and Gamestop (EB Games in Canada) has restocked Samus and our favorite hero Link. They still even hold their original MSRP of $12.99, which is much more appealing than paying out those eBay asking prices! We’re not sure if these re-releases are going to be store exclusive or not, but per Nintendo’s history with amiibo, we wouldn’t be surprised either.

As far as the amiibo themselves go, the figures appear to be exact replicas of their originals. However, the packaging designs have received a few small tweaks. The front features Nintendo’s current red design scheme and also totes Nintendo Switch compatibility on the backside. Strangely though, these amiibo packaging prominently feature a large amount of Japanese text. We’re not sure if Nintendo is potentially trying to cut some extra cost by shipping and selling these amiibo in both regions. This is sure to excite and upset some collectors, as it will definitely affect the second hand market for first print amiibo, but will also screw with the consistency of one’s current amiibo collection. Honestly, I just want to see Nintendo get creative and release a few new color variant amiibo, but that could cause a whole new headache for those of us who just have to “catch em’ all.”

We’ve reached out to Nintendo and a few other retailers for more info and will update this article as we learn more.

Which Super Smash Bros. amiibo are you hoping to see re-released? How do you feel about Nintendo making these available again? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
