Android Reggie Zelda DungeonA recent Play Nintendo video has opened up speculation that Zelda Wii U might finally be revealed at E3 this year.

The tongue-in-cheek announcement clip, featuring an android duplicate of Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime infiltrating one of Nintendo’s corporate headquarters (yes, you read that right), teases that a new game will be shown at the event. The Zelda music playing throughout the video could indicate that the top-secret project is related to Nintendo’s iconic fantasy adventure series.

The annual electronic entertainment trade fair E3 plays host to the most anticipated game announcements of the year. Although Nintendo is once again skipping out on hosting a live press conference, as it did last year, the company has a slew of gaming goodness planned in its place. These include an official Nintendo-sponsored Super Smash Bros. tournament to be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Of more interest to Zelda fans, however, is the mysterious Project Treehouse, which Nintendo developers will live stream and possibly demo at E3. Could it be a Zelda game in disguise?

At this point, it’s more likely than not that Zelda Wii U will have some kind of presence at E3 2014. The Wii U is in desperate need of a killer game, and it seems as good a time as any to debut a new console Zelda. Nintendo suggested that it could have revealed the game at E3 2013, but choose not to in order to give the rest of its lineup room to shine. The company has now had more than enough time to polish it for a public unveiling.

What do you think is the secret message behind the Nintendo E3 announcement video? Is there still any doubt in your mind that Reggie Fils-Anime is the pinnacle of awesome? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
