Paying Rent the Zelda Way

Why does paying the rent have to be such a monotonous task? Reddit user the-worm-your-honor found an extremely creative and fun way to present his month’s rent to his friend. Instead of paying in a normal way, he built a treasure chest from wood, complete with metal accents and sound effects. There’s even a map to go along with it which shows their home as if it were a dungeon. To see the complete process of how the-worm-your-honor surprised his friend, make the jump and check out the pictures below.

It all begins with a map of Midgard, their home. Notice there is a chest in one of the rooms.

A treasure chest like this must have something special in it…

…like the Giant’s Wallet!

Inside the wallet is one month’s worth of rent in rupees.

Da na na naaaa! He got the Giant’s Wallet!

He’s glad he can now hold more rupees.

Before all, the treasure chest had to be built and sanded.

Then it was stained.

Next, sheet metal was cut to accent the outside of the chest.

He attached the metal by using furniture tacks.

What’s a chest from Zelda without the sound effects?

Black velvet was glued to card stock before being tacked inside the chest.

The velvet was then tacked inside.

The leather for the wallet is cut and ready to be sewn.

Sew the lining inside of the wallet and voila! The set is complete! If my roommate presented their rent money to me like this, I think I’d let them live free for the month. All the effort that was put into this surprise was definitely worth it.
