Old Man Ulrira Finds His Voice in this Link’s Awakening Trailer

Link’s Awakening on Switch, Link’s triumphant return to Koholint Island, has already been a resounding success. This is based of course on initial sales figures as well as both critical and user reviews. That said, Nintendo is certainly doing their best to celebrate that success. In a brand new trailer released by the beloved developer, Nintendo highlights one of the game’s most interesting characters, Old Man Wise Ulrira.

During Link’s adventure on Koholint Island, he’ll encounter several telephone booths that he can use to call Ulrira to get a hint about his current objective. His hints are often helpful to players experiencing the game for the first time, revealing how to handle the flowers outside of Bottle Grotto or casually hinting that collecting enough shells can lead to a sword upgrade. Speak to him inside his house, however, and you’ll get a feel for just how shy Ulrira can be.

This latest trailer plays on all these aspects while giving us a brief tour of Koholint Island. A lovingly-voiced Ulrira shares a bit of information about a few of the island’s notable locales and the secrets they hold, like the library in Mabe Village, Kanalet Castle and the monkey nearby, or the mysterious mural in the Ancient Ruins.

The trailer serves as a lovely preview to our in-game interactions with Ulrira and offers a few “things to know before you start” tips for players experiencing Link’s Awakening for the very first time. The trailer then ends with Link visiting Ulrira in his house and, well, he’s not much for words.
