Miiting with the Mask Salesman March 13th has come and gone, which means the aforementioned ‘Developer’s Room Miiting’ has been conducted. MariChan informed the Miiverse Legend of Zelda community that she’d be holding a direct interview with the franchise’s developers- only, the interview panned out a little differently than we all expected. The special guest interviewed actually turned out to be the Happy Mask Salesman!

Quite a bit was learned from interviewing the Happy Mask Salesman. Though, not much about himself, as there were some personal questions directed towards him, and he did well to evade answering them. However, we did get a little more insight on what went on during the developing period of the Majora’s Mask remake. For instance, Majora’s Mask 3D was in production for about three years. Though it wasn’t expressed specifically, it’s safe to say that work started on the remake shortly after Ocarina of Time 3D was released. All those years, Zelda fans begged them for it, and they were already on top of it!

Miiting with the Mask Salesman2

Some of the changes made in Majora’s Mask 3D as opposed to the original were also discussed, such as the bank’s move in Clock Town, the giant eyes on the four bosses, and the implementation of fishing. There was even a nugget of insight on the design of Majora’s Mask, and how it seems more sinister having thorns on such a pure-looking shape. Unfortunately, we still don’t know how the salesman came across such a mask. He’s very good at steering around those kinds of questions. Nevertheless, he did have a few rumors and anecdotes to share, such as the design of the mirror shield being based off of one of the masks on his pack, and that the children on the moon were perhaps only figments created by Majora’s Mask.

Overall, we got some great material. However, the most important tidbit of information we got from the Happy Mask Salesman came right at the end of the interview, where he mentioned the possibility of appearing in a new Zelda game!

Miiting with the Mask Salesman3

Bred from Nintendo, they’ve got the Happy Mask Salesman throwing us hints, and a very conspicuous one at that! I do hope we see him again, and I can’t imagine the different kinds of new masks he may have come across since his first appearance all those years ago. What do you think about the mask salesman being the interviewed guest in the developers meeting? Do you hope to see him and his masks again in a future game too? Leave us some comments and let us know what you think!
