Despite being one of the most disappointing final boss battles in video games, Dark Beast Ganon has one of the best themes in Breath of the Wild‘s diverse score. The song is a blistering, up-tempo piece in a soundtrack that is often known for its sparse and wistful soundscape. Overall, “Dark Beast Ganon” is a song that is fitting for the most dramatic moment in one of the most epic video games of the current generation.
This thrilling piano duet by Cateen and Kazuo Seto is a wonderful arrangement of “Dark Beast Ganon”. Using two pianos was a great choice for the piece, as its original composition used piano as a core element of the song. Without the percussion or brass, the fast paced piano runs are given further emphasis in the piece. In addition to the dramatic runs throughout, the ending is a great exclamation point on a wonderful song. Near the end of the piece, the song grinds to a halt and then builds to a momentous grand finale.
The video accompanying the song is a wonderful addition to the great music. The two piano players have great chemistry and synchronize well. It is is a real treat to see the two players moving through the complicated runs and complex melody of the piece. Overall, it gives me a renewed appreciation for expert piano players!
