clyde zelda 2

Over three years ago translator Clyde “Mato” Mandelin, the man responsible for the Mother 3 English translation, took to the original Legend of Zelda on both the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Famicon to compare and contrast the differences in the two games. He played through the Japanese version of the game, translating his way through and comparing his translations with the official Nintendo of America ones. The result is a wondrous and interesting read, filled with tidbits of information that explain some of the stranger aspects of The Legend of Zelda. Now Mato is at it again, this time taking a critical look at Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. This time around though, he isn’t just putting his notes on the internet. He is streaming his entire process on his Twitch channel and posting the videos on Youtube. Hit the jump to find out how to be apart of this huge project.

You can join in on the action by following Mato’s Twitch streams here. He isn’t able to keep a strict schedule for streaming, but if you follow his Twitter account you can stay up to date on his streams.

If you happen to miss a stream, or if you want to get caught up on the latest progress, you can check out all of the streams on Mato’s YouTube channel.

Once this series is complete, Mato plans on compiling the data from both translation comparisons into a book, something that I certainly am looking forward too. I plan on sitting in on the streams next chance I get, and gaining some knowledge about how Zelda 2 is seen in it’s native country. It is sure to be an interesting ride, one that any Zelda fan can be proud to experience.
