It goes without saying that conferences often drive up sales and pre-orders in the gaming industry. If this marketing tactic weren’t true, companies would see no reason in even spending the money to participate in them. It would make sense that Amazon would see an increase in pre-orders after the Gamescom conference held in Germany last week, but the statistics are not what anyone expected. With games like Destiny and the always popular Call of Duty games on the horizon, nobody expected Nintendo, who didn’t even hold a press conference, to see the highest percentage increase in pre-orders.

Wii U pulled an impressive 8.7% increase, well ahead of the PS4 and Xbox One coming in at 5.16% and 2.81% increases respectively. Granted, this is based on a percent value, so the numbers could be high simply because there weren’t that many pre-orders before the conference began. Reasons aside, it’s super exciting to see that more people are finally getting excited about the Wii U.

So, why is this news so special to Zelda Informer? Well, that’s because the game leading the pack in terms of Nintendo per-orders is actually

Hyrule Warriors. While this may be due to the game releasing in Japan that same weekend, it is surprising to see the Zelda spin off title getting more recognition than Super Smash Bros. Again, this could be due to how percentages stack up from a potentially small number of pre-conference pre-orders, but the Zelda franchise never ceases to amaze. It’s also worth noting that Smash Bros. did make an appearance in the top ten as seen below, so kudos to Nintendo for stepping up their game this weekend. Here’s the top ten individual games that saw the biggest increase percentage in pre-orders on Amazon:

1. Project CARS – 42.3 per cent increase

2. Rise of the Tomb Raider – 30.25 per cent increase

3. Bloodborne – 16.08 per cent increase

4. Hyrule Warriors – 11.77 per cent increase

5. Quantum Break – 10.77 per cent increase

6. Far Cry 4 – 9.53 per cent increase

7. Assassin’s Creed Unity – 9.44 per cent increase

8. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor – 9.03 per cent increase

9. Battlefield: Hardline – 8.81 per cent increase

10. Super Smash Bros for 3DS – 7.56 per cent increase
