Zelda Dungeon’s YouTube Coordinator Gooey Fame is back for another thrilling season of Gooey’s Dungeon Dive. This season explores the dungeon design and creative principles found in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The first episode features the classic dungeon Tail Cave and analyzes the various layouts, allusions to Zelda history, mini-bosses, and more. What makes Gooey’s episodes special is that they deliver intelligent insights with all the charm and connection of two friends catching up over coffee.

I had a chance to ask Gooey about their inspiration for the YouTube series, and they said Mark Brown’s Boss Keys series provided a lot of motivation and passion. “[He] really explored those concepts in a way I’ve never seen before,” Gooey explained. “I even interviewed him for Zelda Dungeon.”

Regarding their decision to start Gooey’s Dungeon Dive at the beginning of the Zelda series, Gooey observed that “the first few games kind of get tossed to the side when discussing almost every aspect of the game, especially dungeons, and I [want] to shine a light on them. Even if they are coming in lower on my ranking, I think there are a lot of cool elements they introduced that people don’t think about.”

Eventually Gooey would like to rank every dungeon in the Zelda series, though admittedly that will be a challenge. “It’s a lot of fun to have a little ongoing project like this. I don’t think I ever want them to get very elaborate because they are just meant to be fun for me, but I just hope to continue going at it for as long as I can.”
