For some time now, many people have been on the side of Nintendo putting games on phones. Potentially, more people would buy them for the simple fact that more people have phones than Wii U’s and 3DS’. Nintendo’s overall sales figures could certainly benefit from this idea. Should the big N begin making new games, or even porting classic games, onto iPhones, Androids, and other such phones? Certainly, Zelda fans would love to have their favorite series games on their phones to access at any time. Start discussing after the jump!

It is rather unfortunate that Nintendo is so intent on keeping their games company exclusive. Phone games are exceedingly popular these days, and when they get enough popularity at release, they are bought by everyone, since they are so easily accessed, and everyone around you has a phone to play them on.

Nintendo could make a deal with one or more companies that make phones, and make something to play games properly on the phones. Phones are not always all that powerful, and trying to play, say, Minish Cap on touch screen does not sound easy. They could make some sort of adapter to plug cartridges of certain systems into, and attach to a phone, letting you play games with the software running smoothly. They could even start making controllers that work on phones. People have made these kinds of things independently, like with the custom Android gamepad pictured below, but there is a lot of hardware to work through to do that, and most of us are not engineers.

If not new games, classic games on NES, SNES, Game Boy and other timeless consoles should be in some way ported to phones. Emulators are extremely common on pretty much any phone, allowing people to simply download the emulator, download a ROM file of a game, and suddenly, you have access to one of loads of classic games. Now, obviously, that is somewhat immoral, since it is basically stealing a game that is likely available on the eShop, but not everyone wants to buy a Wii U just to play A Link to the Past again.

Zelda is a prime candidate for this idea. For one, the old 2D Zeldas could very easily be ported to phones. Again, emulators have done this, but most people do not use them for reasons of feeling bad about stealing, or just not knowing how to do it. Nintendo has the opportunity to put a classic and well-loved series at the fingertips of many a phone user, and they should jump at the chance.

Your turn! What do you guys think? Should Nintendo put their many popular game series onto phones, or should they remain specific to the company’s consoles? Leave your responses below!
