For many of us, one of the most enjoyable parts of the Zelda series is all the nice diversions there are besides the main storyline. This has always included collecting Heart Pieces and various minigames, but with Skyward Sword there are more great diversions to occupy ourselves than ever before. For those who are wondering what exactly there is to do, GoNintendo has kindly worked up a list of just what to expect from the game. Jump inside to see it.

Mini-Games (repeatable, give rewards):

  • Fun Fun Island skydiving (on… Fun Fun Island)
  • Bamboo-cutting (on Bamboo Island)
  • Bug Island challenge (inside Thunderhead)
  • Pumpkin Shoot (in Skyloft)
  • “Minesweeper” digging game (in Eldin)
  • Boss Rush challenge (in Lanayru)
  • Silent Realm challenge (in Lanayru)
  • Playing the harp (at the Pumpkin Pub)
  • Carrying pumpkins (at the Pumpkin Pub)
  • (very minor) Cleaning Pipit’s house

Other, non-repeatable special stuff:

  • Minecart ride
  • Tadnote collecting
  • Spiral strike (?) training on your Loftwing

Collectibles:

  • Goddess Cubes
  • Heart Pieces
  • Bugs
  • Loot and Treasure for Item upgrading

In addition to this, there are also numerous sidequests for helping out non-player characters as well as the Gratitude Crystal collection. Seems like a good chunk of Skyward Sword’s gameplay time can be attributed to these pleasant distractions.

So, how much time do you guys think you’ll spend exploring the Legend of Link’s Distractions? I’m sure most of us will be shooting for all of the heart pieces, but how about those bugs and Goddess Cubes? Think you’ll compete with your friends over who can do the best with a minigame? Remember, only five more days until you’ll be able to play yourself!
