Alex Plant at GenGame recently published an article on the upcoming Zelda title for the Wii U and Twilight Princess. As the article points out, Twilight Princess was seen as a return to form after the departure that Wind Waker was, and the Wii U title has the potential to be the same thing after the experimentation of Skyward Sword. Hit the jump for the article and some thoughts on it.

You can read the article here, but if you don’t want to read the article yourself, I will summarize it for you here.

First, Plant says that he would like to see the return of the hidden sword skills from Twilight Princess. He also points out that they were a little easy to find and he would like to see them a bit more well-hidden. I have to agree about the return of the skills, but as for whether they should be better hidden, I’m a little conflicted. Some of them, especially later in the game, sure. But they should never be exceedingly difficult, and in the beginning they probably should be a little easier to find, in order to introduce you to different ways to look for them.

The second thing mentioned in the article is going more in-depth into Hyrule’s culture. Citing the advances between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, Plant says that he wants to learn even more about cultures like the Gorons and the Zoras. Again, I agree, but I think Plant stops too soon. He never outright says that he wants to see new cultures, which frankly, I would. I suppose that might be a given, but I would be surprised if we got such detail about a new race right away.

The third thing is well-placed dungeon design. Plant discusses the logical progression that exists in Twilight Princess’ dungeons and how it felt more direct than in past titles. It’s been a while since I played Twilight Princess, and I have to confess, I have not finished reading Axle’s series on the dungeons. So I’m afraid I can’t really comment much on this idea, but it sounds common-sensical to me.

The fourth is an outstanding soundtrack. While I don’t disagree that Twilight Princess‘ soundtrack was excellent, I think the language Plant uses implies that Skyward Sword’s was not, which I suppose is really more up for debate than a matter of fact.

The final thing Plant thinks the Zelda Wii U title should borrow from Twilight Princess is “Capturing the Epic ‘coolness’ of the Zelda Series.” Again, while I don’t disagree that Twilight Princess did this, I get the sense that he is implying that Skyward Sword did not do this. Now I had my own issues with Skyward Sword, but I felt that there were several moments that captured what made Zelda cool. But again, that’s just a matter of opinion.

So what do you think? Should the Wii U title take these things from Twilight Princess? Anything else they should take? Let us know what you think in the comments!
