Dark World610The Legend of Zelda series is known for its several iconic elements, with the majority of the games featuring the vast world of Hyrule. We know currently that Triforce Heroes, the new Zelda title for the 3DS, will not take place in this legendary setting. Additionally, Zelda U has not confirmed the setting of Hyrule, so it is entirely possible it will feature a different world. Game Informer published an article discussing the other worlds present in Zelda games, showing the relationship to the timeline and other elements. Hit the jump for more!

The author elaborates on each game which features a different setting. Skyloft is the primary overworld in 29-Image-1Skyward Sword, and is the first setting present in the timeline. This floating landmass is what would eventually become Hyrule, with The Surface (the three regions on the ground in which Link travels to rescue Zelda) being a very early Hyrule. There is also a connection to Hyrule in a Link to the Past’s Dark World, possessing a more dangerous and dark quality than the Light World. In A Link Between Worlds, Lorule is also the connecting underworld.

In Oracle of Ages and Seasons, Labrynna/Holodrum falls due to the loss of time/seasons. Din and Nayru latestare possessed by Onox and Veran, respectively. Both of these worlds do not resemble or are connected to Hyrule, featuring different characters and a distinctive storyline. Even more distinctive is Koholint Island from Link’s Awakening, geographically and directly far away from the setting of Hyrule. Termina, the Great Sea, and the World of the Ocean King take place in the timeline after Ganon is defeated, but Termina acts as a parallel world to Hyrule, despite not having a large connection.

While Hyrule may not be present in every Zelda game, the connecting worlds offer a new and interesting perspective on the Legend of Zelda universe. Be sure to check this link for the full article!
