Last week on Fan Fiction Friday, we read through the fan submitted piece titled “The Doppelganger”. Based on the comments, readers enjoyed the work but wanted a story that didn’t involve Dark Link. Since we did not have any fan submitted pieces last week, we’re taking a look at one suggested by fans that has received a bit of praise. “What Makes a Hero” is a retelling of the Twilight Princess story by fanfiction.net user Selphie Kinneas 175.

Twilight Princess is already regarded as one of the darker and more mature entries in the series, and this story plays on that concept in a really beautiful way. As the writer mentions in her forward, the story is written as a work of non-fiction, though clearly fictional in context. That being said, this retelling is not dark and depressing throughout in an attempt to make the reader feel something. Instead, it plays on the harsh realities of what it takes to be a hero, hence the title.

I have personally never read this story before, so I will be right beside you on this adventure. However, I did read the first couple of chapters and the quality of story telling is exhilarating. The story is sixty-two chapters long, so I don’t expect you to be able to comment immediately if you’ve never read it. But every fan should at least bookmark it as a story to pick up in your down time, especially if you are a fan of Twilight Princess.

If you have read any of this story, let us know what you thought in the comments below. As always, if you have any works of your own, please submit them in the comments section as well and you will be featured in a future Fan Fiction Friday. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t a writer though; you can always give us a link to your favorite fan works and it might be featured as well. Just remember, our fans are our priority, so fan written works come first.

Note: As always, please refrain from hating on fan-made works in the comments section. While some may not enjoy works posted by our fans, others will, and we wish to keep a friendly environment for all fans of the Zelda series. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but we want our fans to feel safe in sharing work they have passionately created here on Zelda Informer. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
