In a recent interview over at IGN, Eiji Aonuma talked briefly about the idea of collaborating with other companies for future Nintendo and Legend of Zelda titles. With the Zelda series, Nintendo has given the lead to Capcom for several Zelda titles already, including Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, A Link to the Past/Four Swords, and The Minish Cap. More recently, the folks over at Grezzo were the ones working on Ocarina of Time 3D. Turns out even folks from Monolish Soft, the guys that make Xenoblade Chronicles, had small input in Skyward Sword. Well, here is what Aonuma had to say about the topic.

“Nintendo’s developers will continue to work on a number of different titles, and I think that we will have to rely on outside companies for graphics and other elements that require massive resources.” Aonuma said, specifically addressing the idea of future partnerships. “I’m satisfied when the cooperation between Nintendo and other companies becomes something meaningful for both parties.”

Here at Zelda Dungeon we’ve really been beating a dead horse when it comes to talking about Retro Studios being behind the next Zelda game. Back in January of this year, I made a post asking what’s the deal with Retro Studios? This most recent quote by Eiji Aonuma just adds fuel to the fire. Although the tone that Aonuma used in this interview is more along the lines of a true collaboration, as opposed to handing off a game to another studio. Nintendo would still be the main guys behind the game, but perhaps they’d completely oursource the graphics to an established company who has dealt with the HD world already.

For future Zelda games, would you rather see Nintendo be the sole developer of the game? Do you think the series would be better off if it was completely outsourced to a third party company like Retro Studios? Or Do you think a true collaboration would be the best route?
