kaeporagaeboraWelcome back for the latest installment of our Weekly News Recap, where this helpful little owl takes you on a trip back in time to revisit some of the most important and talked about topics, here at Zelda Dungeon. This week our hearts are heavy with news that will begin our journey, time can be a cruel mistress and we are all subject to her desires. But we do have some good things to revisit as well, so hold your spirit high and join me on our next adventure, but first I must ask…

Did you get all that? If so, jump in and find me past the break.

We begin our jaunt back in time with the sad news of Satoru Iwata’s passing. The President and CEO of iwataNintendo lost his battle with against cancer on July 11, 2015. Iwata-san led Nintendo as President since 2002 and gained much respect from the gaming community and fans alike. The sad news was felt across the world, and the impact this man had on many lives was clearly evident in the outpouring of love that followed his passing.

SethofRenais said:

“This is just so sad, may he find peace and happiness in the after life.”

electric ocarina shared one of my favorite quotes from Iwata:

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.” – Satoru Iwata. I hope you are gaming in heaven Mr. Iwata. You will be dearly missed.”

Satam helped remind us of what Iwata leaves behind:

“Influential man with a wonderful presence. I will pray for his family and his dear friends. For all of you who are heartbroken, you should remember what influence he had and that his influence will inspire in the future.”

Our next stop on our journey together might break the laws of time as we will be revisiting two separatezmc moments simultaneously. Fan made anime from Aeipathy Industries launched a Kickstarter this week for its Zeldamotion project and then subsequently canceled it a few days later. The project has been a long time in the making and had already seen its first episode completed last year, but now the decision has been made to cancel the project. In a statement from Michael Patch, Producer on the project, his shared his reasons for the cancellation:

“Though I have not received a [cease and desist order], out of respect for Nintendo, and due to few incriminating crowds, (though it was maybe only 30% of people who commented) I am ending the Zeldamotion journey… To the other 70% of you, I give you my sincerest thanks. You made me feel like I was more than just some guy making fan art. You are the ones I did this for.”

Although I respect the decision to walk away from this project immensely, at the same time it is sad. Many fans create things like this out of a love and passion for The Legend of Zelda series, and the hard work involved is immense, so its sad to see the project end in this way.
