After the enormous success of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s tempting to wonder what’s next.

Having finally purchased a copy for myself (and then for my two kids because—of course—we’re now obsessed), the possibilities are bubbling in my mind for how the Zelda universe could be included in the simulation world; indeed there is some precedent for Nintendo doing exactly this after the success of spin-offs like Cadence of Hyrule, and with the history of crossovers in franchises like Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario. The game could be produced as a stand-alone or even as downloadable content for the current hit.

Imagine the freedom to choose your favorite region in Hyrule to settle down, build, and engage with the local culture. Perhaps a spot on the water in Zora’s Domain, or your own desert oasis near Gerudo Town? Maybe you could finally fish off Koholint Island or even pet a dog. Celebrities from the mainline series could visit on occasion, perhaps trading wares before they journey on to save Hyrule. Who knows? Maybe the Hero of Hyrule will find your new tunic design a must-have.

A Hyrule Crossing would also give Nintendo another opportunity to showcase a unique art style, a feature that has become a staple for the series.

Okay, let us know what you think. Would you play a Zelda version of Animal Crossing?
