We have seen handheld/console connectivity in Zelda games before, such as the Tingle Tuner in Wind Waker, and the GBA connectivity in Four Swords Adventures. It’s been ten years since the last attempt. With Super Smash Bros. for 3DS able to connect to the Wii U version (serving to transfer custom characters, or function as a controller), what would you think about this for a Zelda game?

Perhaps we could have the next new handheld Zelda be tied to Zelda U or its successor in interesting ways. They could occupy the same spot in the Zelda timeline, with overlapping stories. Perhaps either the handheld or console game would star a different hero than Link, and connecting the two would allow a level of multiplayer functionality, with the 3DS player controlling that game’s hero and teaming up with the console game’s hero, either within the main quest, or in multiplayer co-op challenges. Or perhaps a simpler approach would be more welcome, with secrets unlocked in each game by connecting the two. These secrets could be unique inventory items, tunic or weapon upgrades, or simple rupees or potions. Or hey, maybe they could revive the Four Swords Adventures idea and have a new fleshed out multiplayer Zelda experience!

But it’s your turn. What would you like to see in the next handheld and console Zelda games? Do you like the idea of connecting the two in unique ways? How would you like to see it work? Or would you like that idea to be left behind in history with Four Swords Adventures and the Tingle Tuner? Let us know in the comments below!
