We can only travel so far in Breath of the Wild, and there are some map edges that we see, but just can’t reach. I’ve always wondered why there are extra bits of map in this game; maybe it’s an aesthetic thing, maybe the world was going to be too big to render, or maybe we will be able to go beyond the original map in the sequel. Let’s discuss.

Breath of the Wild is one of the largest open-world titles in video game history, and it’s map is gigantic! But I do think we could see a much larger map in the sequel. The edges of the map that are just outside our reach make Hyrule look like it’s a large continent. If you climb on top of the Lomei Labyrinth in northeast Akkala, you can even attempt to paraglide over to that extra bit of land. You’ll get a notification that you cannot travel that far, but what if in the future we can?

I’ve always thought that the map edges in this game were just a bit of extra background, but I would love to see those extended and able to be traversed. The only question is, would the game be able to render and run a larger map?

What do you think? Will we see a larger map in Breath of the Wild 2? Sound off in the comments below!
