In the Zelda series, curses are a reoccurring theme and one of the more interesting side quests that Link can take part in. When I started making a list, my thoughts turned to which of the curses I found the most rewarding to break.

In The Minish Cap, it is possible for players to access a part of the Cloud Tops early. Here, you will discover a man called Gregal who is plagued by a ghost. By using the Gust Jar you can break the curse that has been ailing Gregal, and be rewarded with the Light Arrows further on in the game. This is a very useful item, but sadly, if you do not save Gregal he will die and the chance to obtain the Light Arrows is lost. Considering how easy it is to miss this opportunity, it is rewarding for those players that take the time and effort to match the Kinstone Pieces.

On a more emotional level, I would say breaking the curse on Pamela’s father from Majora’s Mask is top of my list. I love the build-up to this curse, the atmosphere of Ikana Canyon is incredibly spooky. Not being a fan of Gibdos, hearing them moan and lumber towards Pamela’s house gives me the chills. After a dramatic introduction to Pamela’s father, we learn of the horrific curse placed upon him. Players can take great satisfaction in reuniting father and daughter by playing the Song of Healing. In the end credits, we see that the workaholic scientist has also turned over a new leaf by spending more quality time with Pamela. For two side characters to go through such a development arc is quite rewarding in itself.

So, which curse did you find the most rewarding to break? Do you prefer the item rewards or more character driven ones? Some curses in Zelda cannot be broken, should this be changed? Whatever your thoughts, let us know in the comments below!
