Over the course of less than four years, we’ve received not one, not two, but three different versions of Hyrule Warriors.  Considering its most recent incarnation on the Switch is dubbed Definitive Edition, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve seen the last of these re-releases — at least until Nintendo releases its next console. And for as much as the subsequent iterations have added to the original Wii U game, the Zelda series boasts such a rich history that the developers would still have a ton of material to work with for a proper sequel.

In terms of playable warriors, I’m still scratching my head at certain characters’ absence. I mean, I love Hyrule Warriors, but c’mon — we’ve gone through three releases, and we’re still missing Groose?! If and when we get Hyrule Warriors 2, he’s got to be priority no. 1. It’s about time that the remaining sages from Ocarina of Time joined the party, too — even if they hand down Impa’s naginata to Nabooru and give Lana’s deku spear to Saria.

If Definitive Edition’s new costumes for Link and Zelda are any indication, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo seem to have a desire to incorporate more elements from Breath of the Wild. The four Champions are the obvious character additions, but there are plenty of other things I’d love to see from Link’s latest quest. Off the top of my head, I’m thinking about maps based on Zora’s Domain, Hyrule Castle, and a Sheikah shrine. I’d appreciate some more variety in the enemies, too. Agile foes like the Yiga could add some freshness to the table, while bosses such as the Divine Beasts and Calamity Ganon could make for some memorable set-piece moments. Speaking of bosses, let’s tone them down and make them less “bullet-spongey.”

Those are just some of the things I’d like to see from a hypothetical Hyrule Warriors 2, but what about you? Would you like to see more representation from a particular Zelda game, or do you have some ideas on how they could improve the gameplay itself? Let us know in the comments below!
