I know, this is Zelda Dungeon, so why are we talking about a game series besides Zelda? Well, Okami is a darn good Zelda-like game, and is worth talking about on occasion! It seems like rumors of an Okami sequel are ever present, but nothing ever materializes from them. Yesterday, a story started to make the rounds that one member of the game’s original development team, Ikumi Nakamura, has plans to pitch an Okami sequel to Capcom. We can only hope that she follows through, and cross our fingers that Capcom likes the pitch, and that this doesn’t end up as part of the on-going cycle of rumors.

After I heard this news, I began to wonder what a modern Okami sequel might play like. The original game was released over a decade ago on the Playstation 2. More recently, we got an HD port of the game, but this really only shows us how a modern-day sequel might look in terms of graphics. Would Okami be able to translate well into an open-world setting? How could they improve upon the combat of the original game? Would they be able to offer a better means to use the Celestial Brush without using touch controls? Then again, they wouldn’t really need to, because it looks like the Dualshock 5 will still have a touchpad, and the Switch can support touchscreen controls.

I think an Okami sequel has a ton of potential, and it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to see it adopting modern game designs with it’s own unique spin. That said, how do you envision the gameplay of an Okami sequel? Tell us in the comments below!
