I’ve never been much one for getting into all the ‘National Insert-a-Random-Topic Days’ that seem to haunt the public conscious. All too often, they seem either incredibly too niche or bear no relation to the date they’re on. There is however one I do remember given how often my childhood schools always seemed to capitalize on it as a way to celebrate the end of the school year. That is of course today, May 21st, National Pizza Party Day. So in honor of grade school kids the world round, let’s talk about pizza.

Specifically Zelda and pizza. Pizza is not a recipe that you can make within The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, nor is it featured in any Zelda games in any shape or form, but the ingredients to do so are there. A little Tabantha Wheat, yeast, and water to make the crust, Tabantha Milk to make into cheese, and a mixture of various juicy vegetables to make a sauce. You’ve got a basic cheese pizza there; so the question is, What do we put on top of it?

The debate of pizza toppings is one of the oldest in modern human culture and one that continues to bring out plenty of ire among a college party strapped for cash. When we consider only ingredients we can obtain within the realm of Hyrule, things get even more interesting. Sure, you could stick to the crossover of common toppings and what’s in Hyrule, like mushrooms, fish, and sausage; but what if we got real crazy? What would frog or Lizalfo taste like on pizza? What about Zapshroom and Electric Darner? Is it customary to have a Spicy Pepper on the side?

For my answer, I decided to go a little above and beyond. Popular in Sweden is the idea of banana on pizza. Given the prevalence of Mighty Bananas among the Yiga, I put myself to making a Yiga Pizza, covered with plenty of bananas, some “Endura Shrooms” (Bella Mushrooms, great for heart health), and some sausage made from “Raw Meat” found at my store, all shaped like the Yiga clan symbol. You can see the results above! As for how it tasted, I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re someone who doesn’t like pineapple, it definitely isn’t for you, but it was kind of like a less juicy pineapple, which I was all for.

What do you think? What would you put on your Hyrulian Pizza? Are you happy pineapples don’t exist in Hyrule? Let us know in the comments!
