With less than a month to go before the highly anticipated release of Tears of the Kingdom, the hype and fan expectations couldn’t be higher. Perhaps for being a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, this new entry has been generating different types of discussions on internet forums. People have very strong opinions about it, as it is not very common for the Zelda series to deliver sequential entries like this.

Generally, a game’s direct sequel can be a double-edged sword, especially if the previous title was a huge success, as is the case with Breath of the Wild. On one hand, fans are reassured by already knowing what to expect from the new adventure, at least in its essence; on the other hand, it makes players enter a brand new universe with an already preconceived notion of what’s to come, which can generate a lot of frustrations.

For example: we already know that breakable weapons will be back in Tears of the Kingdom. A lot of fans have not really embraced this dynamic, even now with the introduction of Link’s new Fusion ability. Personally, I think it will be the ideal answer to the “problem,” as it will keep players’ imagination and skill testing alive, while allowing developers to continue experimenting with new mechanics.

With that being said, the real question is, As a fan, is there any element (old or new) that Tears of the Kingdom can bring to the table that would be a bucket of cold water for you in a first playthrough? Perhaps the absence of dungeons once more? The lack of a real impactful soundtrack? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
