2019 was a pretty festive year for us, as we saw the release of two Zelda games in Cadence of Hyrule and the Link’s Awakening remake. Looking ahead, there is only one certainty: Breath of the Wild 2 is coming. We don’t know how close it is– it could release any time between a few months and a few years from now– but it’s coming. Fingers crossed, its development is further along than some have speculated.

In any case, this series has become so much bigger than the once-every-few-years release schedule of its mainline entries. At this point, it’s rare for a full 12 months to pass by without seeing Link pop up in something. With that being said, I’m curious as to what you all are most excited to see from this franchise beyond Breath of the Wild 2.

Upon seriously thinking about it, there are several– for lack of a better term– obvious side projects that I would love to see Nintendo tackle. With so few first-party Wii U titles left to make the jump to the Switch, it’s only a matter of time before we see The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD ported over. Additionally, I often hear fans clamor for an “HD collection” topped off with a Skyward Sword remake.  Yes, please!

As much as I long to play Twilight Princess on the console-handheld hybrid, there is one project that might excite me just a bit more:  a proper sequel to Hyrule Warriors. I’m talking about a new story with unique maps, even more quality-of-life improvements, environments similar to dungeons, and, above all else, Groose. The original game remains one of my favorite pieces of Zelda content– one of the purist, most unbridled displays of quality fan-service– yet I’d argue there’s still plenty of potential left to mine.

Again, though, I want to know your thoughts. Outside of the main event that is Breath of the Wild 2, what Zelda-related project are you most hopeful to see within the coming years? Let us know in the comments below!
