Tears of the Kingdom‘s soundtrack is, pun intended, legendary. The music of this game covers such a vast majority of styles of music; from standard classical music, to minimalist music, to traditional folk styles, this game has it all. The live instruments of the soundtrack bring out such an expressive side to the sound of the series, which I personally love. And the treasure trove of tracks includes a plethora of references to games from Zelda‘s past; even the final boss tune has references to tracks from Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time.

I also love the reuse of tracks from Breath of the Wild. One of my favorite reuses is actually somewhat of an easter egg! If you go to the Temple of Time during the day, the music that plays includes snippets from the overworld music in Breath of the Wild. Even though Tears of the Kingdom takes the minimalist piano music from its predecessor, it adds new piano melodies with string pads, which are synthesizers that are meant to sound like a soft orchestral string section, to the sparse texture. The Temple of Time music in Tears of the Kingdom has motifs from Breath of the Wild without the string pads! It’s such a subtle detail, but I love it.

With a game this big, with so many tracks with so much charm, there’s a lot to love! It’s hard to choose just one favorite! However, all in all, my favorite piece of music in the entire game has to be the music that plays when Link jumps from the first Sky Island into the pool of the tutorial area. In my first and most recent playthrough, that track put tears (get it?) in my eyes.

But how about you? What song in Tears of the Kingdom makes you the happiest to hear? Let us know in the comments!
