Daily Debate: What is Your Favorite Chiptune Song in the Zelda Series?
Posted on July 31 2021 by David Nystrom
The music in the Legend of Zelda series is iconic, to say the least. Recently though, I heard a version of one of the more recent themes in the franchise that really wowed me and got me thinking. The piece I’m referring to was a chiptune rendition of the song that played in the E3 teaser for the sequel to Breath of the Wild. It got me thinking about what other songs really sounded great in either their original form or as a remake — the chiptune retro style. So, that’s the debate question today. What is your favorite chiptune version of a Zelda song?
One of my personal favorites is the “Ballad of the Windfish” from Link’s Awakening. This song, in its original form on the GameBoy (GameBoy Color for me), was defining to me as a young Zelda fan. When I hear it, I’m reminded of playing it in the backseat of the car as the streetlamps flashed past. Perhaps one of my other favorites is “Title” from A Link to the Past. The first 0:15 of that, when the Triforce floats onto the screen, is timeless and iconic to every Zelda fan.
What about you? What are some of your favorite retro tracks in the Zelda series? This can either be in its original form or a “de-make” of a contemporary song. Let us know in the comments below and share some of your favorites!
