Daily Debate: What Are Your Initial Thoughts on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity?

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has finally hit the shelves and I swear, about 80% of my Switch friends list says they’re online this very minute, enjoying the Zelda franchise’s latest installment! I’ve already clocked a number of hours into this game myself, and I have to say, so far, it’s everything I was hoping for. I have so many initial thoughts, but I also wanted to see how the rest of the community was feeling!

One of the key things I enjoy about this game is that, right off the bat, it is very story driven. There are clear levels, and side missions, but I’ve only just started chapter three and it feels like there are more cutscenes in the first two chapters than the entirety of Breath of the Wild. It seems that Nintendo is finally delivering the story we wanted all along, and I am loving it. I also appreciate that while it is a Hyrule Warriors title, sometimes I forget that I’m playing a Hyrule Warriors game. Honestly, we were attacked by hordes of monsters in Breath of the Wild all the time. Granted, not by the thousands, but still, sometimes I get so focused in this game and it just blends so well with Breath of the Wild’s aesthetic and movement that it feels like I’m playing a different version of said game! I’m also loving the chance to see just how skilled the Champions are as warriors. Revali and Urbosa have to be my favorites, but I’m super interested to hear who everyone else has been using as their main as well.
