The Heart Container system has been a staple of the Zelda franchise for a long, long time. However, one might pose the question: is it time for a change?

Heart Containers are commonly found after successfully defeating a boss, or in a chest somewhere in the overworld. After Zelda games upon Zelda games using Heart Containers, the system can become repetitive and boring. Personally, I would like to see Zelda U implement a level-up system such as the one in Zelda II, as well as level-up systems used in most RPG games. The more enemies you fight and quests you complete, the more experience you gain allowing you to level-up. Upon leveling-up, you gain more attack power, health, etc.

However, removing the Heart Container system could be a negative aspect for some fans. As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fit it.” Heart Containers are a symbol of nostalgia for some Zelda fans, and removing them from Zelda U could make the game seem less like The Legend of Zelda, and more like Skyrim. Others just plain like the Heart Container system for what it is, and a replacement system for gaining more health could be an annoyance.

Where do you stand? Are you pro-including Heart Containers in Zelda U, or would you prefer that this system is kept out of the game? Consider letting us and other fans know what you think in the comments below.
