The Majora’s Mask iteration of Link is among one of my favorite portrayals of the hero. While playing as Young Link may have been disappointing for some, the little gameplay changes they added to Link’s character really showed just how much he had grown and become stronger through his experiences in Ocarina of Time. Little flourishes to his jumps and the ability to wield items he could only use as an adult in the previous title were such small but appreciated details that it made me appreciate his character even more.

So when Young Link’s return was announced in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I got really excited. After all, Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf were all given character design changes and, in Link’s case, different attacks and equipment that showcased the newer games to change things up. Unfortunately, Young Link didn’t get any noticeable upgrades or changes. He still plays as he did in Melee, and it’s a shame since Majora’s Mask has so much great material that could be borrowed from. I would have loved to see Young Link wielding the Mirror Shield and Razor Sword, or even one of his transformation masks. Hyrule Warriors may have spoiled me by presenting a Young Link with almost all of those upgrades in mind, but I think the changes could be implemented very successfully in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. What do you think? Do you wish Young Link had attacks and equipment borrowed fromĀ Majora’s Mask? Let us know in the comments!
