Now we all know that, regardless of being named The Legend of Zelda, the series follows the Hero of Hyrule, our favorite holder of the Triforce of Courage, Link.  That’s the point of view we, the players, are given while the rest of the world is developed through his eyes.  However Link does not always work alone.

Often throughout the series, he is given companion characters like Fi, Midna, or Tatl.  Someone to show Link the ropes and keep him on the forward-moving path – sometimes to the blatant exasperation of the player.  I am looking at you Navi. I obviously figured out my item didn’t work; you don’t need to rub it in.

So what if Princess Zelda herself was once again cast as Link’s companion?  This isn’t something she is entirely unfamiliar with. In Spirit Tracks, after the princess has her body stolen, she teams up with our hero to get it back and save Hyrule.

She even had some rather useful abilities like utilizing the large, armored bodies of Phantoms to aid Link against enemies and difficult terrain.  Honestly, I’d go so far as to say Princess Zelda is my favorite companion character and if she ever came back as such, I’d love to see something reminiscent of Spirit Tracks.

What do you think?  Should Princess Zelda ever return as Link’s companion, à la Spirit Tracks?  Let us know in the comments below!
