With Halloween coming fast over the horizon, the more morbid or spooky topics seem to take center stage at Zelda Dungeon. Link and death have an understanding in the Zelda series. If Link should perish, he can be revived by fairies or simply begin his quest again from the last save point. There are no high stakes here. We know as the player, that there will always be a second chance if things go wrong. After all, this is a form of entertainment…or is it? For our Daily Debate today, I would like to ask – how would you feel if Link actually died at the end of a Zelda game?

It isn’t uncommon for the central character in a story to kick the bucket, but this is Link we’re talking about! Such a twist seems unbelievable, but the Zelda timeline suggest this has already happened. The split in the Ocarina of Time timeline for example, when the hero was defeated. I interpret this to mean that Link died at the hands of Ganon and was unable to save Hyrule. We don’t see this, but imagine if that was actually the ending. I would be pretty shocked, confused even. Having worked through the temples, armed myself with the Master Sword and gained the support of the sages, to then just die would not compute. What would happen to the world?

Personally, I would hate for Link to die at the end, but how would you feel? Would you consider this a cheap twist in the franchise? Whatever your opinion, don’t forget to share your thoughts on this Daily Debate below!
