Breath of the Wild was very innovative in how Link earned Heart Containers and the new edition of energy. Hearts were traditionally earned by finding Pieces of Heart and creating Heart Containers automatically through your inventory. They were also awarded at the end of major dungeons (which was still a thing in Breath of the Wild). However, in Breath of the Wild Pieces of Heart are gone, and Spirit Orbs essentially took their place. It does take a bit of effort to get hearts and energy since you have to find a Goddess Statue to convert the Spirit Orbs, but I love how it’s done. We don’t know if shrines and Goddess Statues will return in Breath of the Wild 2, but if they don’t, how will Link gain more hearts in the game?

I would love to see the return of Heart Pieces hidden throughout Hyrule. Breath of the Wild had a massive map with plenty of places to hide them. The game also had multiple mini games and Heart Pieces would make for a great reward. Shrines were fun, but many players complained that the lack of traditional dungeons made Breath of the Wild suffer. We don’t know a lot about Breath of the Wild 2 yet, but I would be hard pressed to see 120 shrines return to the sequel. I think a new heart mechanic would need to be developed or the current mechanic modified in some way. Link would still earn Heart Containers at the end of major dungeons, but what if, as he journeyed and became stronger, he earned more? Almost like how enemies got stronger as Link defeated more in the game? It’s something to think about.

What are your thoughts? How will hearts be earned in Breath of the Wild 2, sound off in the comments below! t
