The Triforce is a staple element in Zelda lore. I’ve always assumed it plays a crucial role in the prosperity of a land within the Zelda universe. Hyrule has one, Lorule does as well; an exception is the land of Termina from Majora’s Mask. At the point in time that Link enters this land, we can assume it has no Triforce, or that at the very least the citizens have forgotten it exists. Although, I’ve been wondering if Termina did have one at some point?

There are depictions of the Triforce on statues in the Nintendo 64 version of Majora’s Mask, however they were removed from the 3DS remake of the game. Thus, it would seem that the developer’s intent was that Termina has no Triforce. Notably, those statues were not reused models from Ocarina of Time, so I find it hard to believe a Triforce appearing on them was accidental.

I personally like theories that say Termina had a Triforce at one point, but something happened to it. Either it was destroyed like Lorule’s, or perhaps the three goddesses of creation deemed Termina unworthy of a Triforce due to committing blasphemy, as this Stone Tower Theory implies.

So, what do you all think? Do you take the omission of Triforce symbols in the 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask at face value? Or do you think Termina did have a Triforce at one time? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
