Daily Debate: Are Zelda Games Better Played at an Old or Young Age?

As one of Nintendo’s top franchises, The Legend of Zelda is home to fans of all ages. From big to small, old to young, the series does a fantastic job of appealing to everyone in one way or another. I myself have been playing these games for as long as I can remember, having had no problem finding people to talk to about the series, regardless of where I go. That’s probably one of its most fascinating quirks, just about anyone you meet is a potential Zelda fan. This amazing fact brings up a rather interesting question: Are Zelda games better played at an old or young age?

See, not everyone has the time to sit down and put in four to five hours of their day towards a video game. A lot of people still can, there’s no doubt about that, but the majority of those that can’t are adults. The only thing most kids and teenagers have to worry about is school and homework, leaving a good chunk of their day open to whatever they’d like to dedicate it to. As you grow older, however, your plate starts to fill up with more and more tasks and responsibilities, most of which are necessary to be able to live comfortably. As much as we’d like to, a lot of us just can’t play video games as often as we could when we were younger.

So, with the Zelda series having such a huge fanbase, ranging from children to adults, what is the ideal age group for people to play these games? With so many of us having very different schedules, it’s hard to tell whether there even is one solid “correct” audience for the series. You could sit down, pour countless hours into a game and beat most of it in one or two gaming sessions, being able to experience almost all of what it has to offer as a long, almost singular journey. You could also play through multiple, short sessions, making the experience last longer and relishing in your adventure.

These two different methods both sound equally as enjoyable to me, but that might not be the case for everyone. What do you think? Are there any circumstances other than your schedule getting in the way now that you’re older?
