There is no shortage of hype surrounding the release of Link’s Awakening in September. That’s especially true for those of us who have fond memories of the 1993 GameBoy classic. It would seem that video game developer and journalist, Tim Rogers, is not only on the hype train, but shoveling coal into the engine too!

In a video recently uploaded by Kotaku, Rogers spends almost an hour reviewing the original master-piece.  In fact, he recounts the beginning of Link’s Awakening in jaw-dropping detail. Using only his memory of the original game, Rogers discusses everything from the opening cinematic, to the conclusion of the Tail Cave.

The video begins with Roger’s explaining his personal connection to the game. He purchased Link’s Awakening on a family trip, using some money that his aunt had given him. Throughout the video, he refers back to this setting with some tongue-and-cheek jokes about the scenario and his playing of the game. Once he gets to the game though, his memory of each panel Link can walk through is nothing short of amazing. He describes small things like the location of bomb-able walls that you can’t even open until later in the game, but also the types of enemies in each room.

I personally feel like I could walk somebody through the beginning of Ocarina of Time at this level, but I’ve played that game as recently as two months ago. Rogers, however, points out that it’s been almost twelve years since he last played through Link’s Awakening.

Link’s Awakening is one of my top three Zelda games of all time, and I’m extremely excited for this return to Koholint Island. I have fond memories of the game, such as enjoying defeating Moldorm while traveling with my Dad. I was so excited that I interrupted his meeting to show him!

What about you? Do you possess the Triforce of Wisdom (or at least a fragment of it) like Rogers seems to? And are you able to recreate each panel of Link’s Awakening or your other favorite Zelda game? Were you as impressed as I was with his memory? Let us know in the comments below or chat about it over in our discord!
