Here’s a feel-good story for you. It might have taken 755 hours of blood, sweat, and tears but one grandma has finally beaten The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At 82 years old, GramieGreat (as she is known on Reddit) received a copy of the game back in 2006. She has dipped in and out of play for the past eleven years, but has always known it was there waiting for her to complete.

Proud grandson Chris (millerischris) shared that his grandma is not a hardcore gamer and that the motion controls were a big learning curve. As someone who has tried to beat the game on the Wii, I can attest to this! Chris did help with the occasional challenge, but 99% of the work, including the final boss fight, was all down to her.

GramieGreat found playing Twilight Princess a fantastic distraction from her back as she was recovering from surgery. Chris has shared some of the text messages he received from his grandma over time, and it is obvious that despite being a labor of love, she has thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

As well as using a physical guide book, GramieGreat has praised Zelda Dungeon’s very own walkthrough guide by Caleb Simpson. In a text to Chris, she says, “I’ve been using Zelda Dungeon for the YouTube walk throughs. The young man that narrates is fun to listen to and doesn’t use challenging language to get us through!”

Chris’ favorite quote from his grandma made me laugh: “I wonder if Nintendo gives prizes for the longest time to complete Twilight Princess. I have fooled around with this for 500 hours.” Well, I’m sure it was 500 hours well spent and the memories of course will be priceless. From all of us here at Zelda Dungeon, we wish GramieGreat heart-felt congratulations.

What do you think of GramieGreat’s achievement? Do you know of any other grandparents that play games from the Legend of Zelda series? You can drop a comment below or even share your thoughts on our Discord server.
