Nintendo fans far and wide tuned in to last night’s Game Awards hoping to see some legendary announcements, whether it be the unveiling of a new Zelda collection, a new tease for Breath of the Wild 2, or one of many other more sensible World Premiere showcases. But other than a minor appearance in a Nintendo sizzle reel and a devastating loss in the Most Anticipated Game category, Breath of the Wild 2 — and the Zelda series as a whole — was largely absent from the evening’s festivities.

The Game Awards hype train, fueled in no small part by vague statements made by Geoff Keighley and Reggie Fils-Aimé, was running off the rails by the time the show began. And for fans expecting — convinced even — that Breath of the Wild‘s sequel would be the ceremony’s big announcement, the end of the show likely begot feelings of disappointment, bewilderment, or emptiness.

Meanwhile, others — like myself — had not invested too much in the possibility of a big Zelda announcement and were therefore not as bothered by a largely uneventful night, Nintendo-wise. Sure, we certainly would have loved to see more of Breath of the Wild 2; but its absence was not at all shocking in hindsight. Speaking for myself, though, I was still a bit disappointed by Nintendo’s non-presence at The Game Awards overall.

But what about you? Did The Game Awards let you down? Did you go in expecting a legendary announcement that never came to pass? Were your expectations more tempered? Let us know in the comments below!
