Screen Shot 2015-06-16 at 3.23.55 PMWith the official announcement of Hyrule Warriors Legends during Nintendo’s Digital Event last week, bits and pieces of news have been trickling in. So far, we have shared with you all that we have learned and today we have a little bit more. The new information comes from this week’s Famitsu, where the producer of the game, Yosuke Hayashi shares with us a little more about this upcoming title. In the interview he discusses when development started, where the idea came from, and also gives us a little hint about whether or not we can expect to see more characters added to the game. Head past the jump to learn more.

In one of the questions he responds to in the interview, he talks about when development for the game started. This is what he had to say:

“That was after the release of the Wii U version. The Wii U version got a positive reception from people who played it, but as there are already many Zelda titles on the Nintendo 3DS, many Zelda fans said “I’d like to play this on 3DS”. The development of the Nintendo 3DS version took off from there.”

It would seem as if in the beginning of development of the Wii U version, Koei Tecmo debated the possibility of adding content from The Wind Waker, but after much thought they felt that due to the art style it wouldn’t be possible to mesh the worlds together. So the idea was scrapped, until talk of the 3DS version began. Koei Tecmo decided they wanted to create an epilogue-style story in Hyrule Warriors Legends, and so the idea to use The Wind Waker was made. According to Hayashi the game content that includes The Wind Waker will only commence once the ending is reached from the original Wii U version.

But can we expect to see more characters from The Wind Waker? We already know that Tetra and the King have been confirmed; but who else can we expect? No specifics were given but it seems from his statement that there is definitely a possibility we could see even more characters:

“I can’t go into details yet, but we plan to add new character(s) [can mean one or several] other than Tetra and King of Hyrule. There are fan favorites and surprising characters in the game, so I’d be happy if you kept guessing who will join the fight while waiting for follow-up information.”

Hayashi also said that in Adventure mode StreetPass will be supported. While in Adventure mode you will be able to take on specific missions which will reward you with new items and characters.

They are currently expecting the title to release in the Spring of 2016, and the development process seems to be about 60% done. We also know that amiibo will work in the 3DS version in the same manner as on the Wii U. So that brings me to the most important question… Do you think that means we could see a Tetra amiibo?
