2012’s Zelda Fan-Film, “ESCAPE”, Becoming Feature-Length Film

A little over a year ago, a channel on YouTube called BaruchFilms released a highly popular short film based on the Legend of Zelda, called ESCAPE. The director of the video has now released his announcement video for a feature-length adaptation of ESCAPE, called PRINCESS IN ANOTHER CASTLE.

The heart-wrenching story of a young girl trying to escape the cruel world around her received great praise from several popular gaming websites, and now it is shaping up to make another lasting impression. Personally, I hope that the film keeps the “mostly speechless” style of ESCAPE. Having most scenes silent, barring sound effects, and giving Danny no actual lines made the viewer really give attention to detail, since there was no aural distractions. I don’t think scene-enhancing music is a bad thing, but music is often the platform for making the audience feel sad for characters. ESCAPE did not rely on that, and instead made a great sad story through little more than expressions and actions. I suspect PRINCESS IN ANOTHER CASTLE will be similar, and I hope it has the same impact on us as its predecessor.
