- The game begins by tossing Link in the overworld. On the starting screen there's a cave at the top-left corner. Enter it and you'll find an Old Man. He will give Link his first item, the wooden sword. Leave the cave.
- Walk right a screen and you'll find the first enemy in the game, the Octorok. They'll shoot rocks at you, but they're pretty easy to dodge. Hit them with your sword once, and they're gone. Grab whatever they drop and head right.
- On this screen, you'll encounter another new enemy, the tektite. These creatures will jump around the screen, so they're pretty hard to hit. Again, they only take one hit to kill so don't be to worried. Defeat all of them on this screen and head right. There's some more tektites, so kill them and head right again.
- You'll now reach an area that has a coastline and you'll find two new enemies on this screen. The first are leevers that start off burrowed underground. They'll appear from beneath your feet to attack, so move quickly. They are quite a nuisance but fortunately can be killed in two hits.
- Another enemy on this screen are the Zolas that live in water. They'll surface and shoot a beam towards you. Your regular shield is incapable of blocking the beam, so try your best to avoid it. Zolas can be defeated with two hits, but it can be quite difficult, so it is better to just avoid them. Continue and head right a screen.
- You'll encounter a blue variation of an octorok on this screen. These octoroks are identical to the red ones, but thay are slightly stronger in health. They take two hits to defeat. We're almost there, so just keep heading right for now.
- Keep killing the creatures until you reach the eastern coast. Head up from here, as that's all we can do. Enter the cave on this screen and purchase the bombs they have for sale. You should have enough rupees for them if you've been killing the enemies. If not, go explore and collect some more. You may have grabbed the bombs from an enemy that dropped them. If you did, there's no need to buy them, but extra bombs could be useful. Exit the cave.

Wooden Sword |
- The very first sword in the game. It's reliable and will work just fine for our needs. However, it lacks power, so it should be replaced early.

- Octoroks are enemies that spit rocks at you. They are annoying, but commonly leave ruppees behind for you to grab. The red variant has less defense and'll take one hit with the
wooden sword, while the blue variant'll take two. The blue variant may also leave bombs behind. |

- Leevers can get annoying and are a lot more difficult than the past two enemies. They hide in the ground and will occasionally pop up near you to attack.
- The red and blue one have quite a big difference. The blue variant, when hit, won't hide in the ground, but the red one, once hit, will hide in the ground briefly and reappear in another location.
The red one also has less health than the blue one. It takes two hits with the wooden sword to kill a red Leever, and four to kill a blue Leever. |

- Zolas are common enemies that are nearly impossible for us to kill at the moment. They live in the lakes and oceans of Hyrule and shoot a beam at you. The most you can do right now is dodge
their beams
- They take two hits with the wooden sword to kill and there is only one variant of the Zola. |
Bombs |
- Used to blow stuff up and act as a weapon. We'll use this to discover some overworld secrets. They're sold in many shops across Hyrule, and sometimes, enemies may drop them.
